Once you have found out that your child has been suffering from depression, you will most probably panic. However, it cannot do anything good for you and for your child. You have to think about certain methods and find how you can help your child get rid of depression. Remember, your child may not want to see a doctor. And, he may not express his feelings to you although he might show symptoms of depression in children.
That’s why it is important to talk to your child. Do this in private when he can speak what is on his mind. Never judge your child or decide for him. As much as possible, keep your eyes and ears on him. You have to be careful with the words which you are going to tell him. Your depressed child can feel shame, doubt and guilt, which can worsen the situation.
You have to explain to him properly that he needs medical help from a doctor. But never let him feel that he is bad or that he has done something wrong. Always make him feel being loved and supported.
